Moving tasks and a full board
Solving holds up to three tasks. Complete one or move it to Postponing or Uncontrolled before bringing in another. Drag to a board tab or screen edge on iPhone; in iPad landscape, drag directly between columns. Tasks are sorted by priority, not by where you drop them.
The new-achievement indicator
Opening Achievements records the viewing time and badge level. With iCloud sync enabled, iCloud Key-Value Store synchronizes this state between devices using the same account. This can clear the new-achievement indicator on another device once the change arrives. With sync off, new views stay local; previously saved cloud state is not deleted. Turning sync on again merges the two states and may upload local views. This information is not sent to the developer or used by Doubtful for analytics, advertising or tracking.
Required and optional steps
Add steps while creating or editing a task. Swipe a step or open its context menu to change its type. A task can be completed once all required steps are done; optional steps don’t affect its progress. Drag steps to arrange them. “Completed steps to bottom” is a per-task choice; the Settings switch supplies the default only for new tasks and templates.
Yesterday’s completed tasks
Tasks completed before today move from Resolved to Trash at local midnight while the app is active, or when you next open or return to it. This is a move, not permanent deletion. They stay in Trash until restored or permanently deleted.
Restoring from Trash
Restore an individual task, select several, or restore all tasks. Returning a task to an active section clears its completed-step checkmarks. You can also permanently delete selected tasks or empty Trash. With iCloud sync enabled, cloud deletion can wait for a successful sync; with sync off, cloud copies remain.
Adding a list and reusing templates
In New Task, choose List and enter one task per line. These tasks go to Uncontrolled. Create a template with its own steps or save a task as a template, then add a fresh copy to your chosen section. Templates are reused manually; they don’t create tasks on a schedule.
About reminders
Doubtful does not schedule task reminders. iCloud uses background updates for syncing; these are separate from reminders.
If your tasks aren’t syncing
Check that your devices use the same iCloud account, have an internet connection, and have iCloud sync enabled in Doubtful’s Settings. Check the sync status there, then reopen the app. If a problem continues, email the displayed error without including private task details.
Turning off sync and deleting data
Moving to Trash is not permanent deletion. “Delete All Data” removes local tasks and user templates, keeping settings and exported files. With sync on, deletion requests for known cloud records are saved and retried; Settings shows pending deletions. With sync off, new deletions are local and pending cloud requests pause. A device that still holds a task can upload it to iCloud again. This does not guarantee a complete iCloud wipe; see the privacy policy for the limits. This command also leaves achievement-view state in local settings and iCloud Key-Value Store; the app has no separate control to erase it.
Backups and restoring tasks
Export saves a separate file on your device or with your chosen cloud provider. Backups include tasks and their required and optional steps. Restore them with a compatible version of Doubtful. Choose merge or replace when restoring. A restore can bring back deleted tasks and upload them to iCloud when sync is on; records still awaiting cloud deletion for the relevant account are skipped. Backups use a shared built-in key, not a personal password: anyone with a file can open it in a compatible app. Deleting tasks does not delete exported files. Achievement-view state is not included in task exports and is not restored or cleared by importing them.
Something not quite right?
Email the app version, device model, iOS or iPadOS version, and the steps that led to the problem. Screenshots are helpful, but remove private task details first. Please don’t send passwords or account credentials.
